The ‘No Tears’ claim can be supported by studies such as eye instillation tests, under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. The safety in use and acceptability of cosmetic eye products can also be tested. Initially products are used under direct supervision, followed by a period of use at home, with a final assessment from an ophthalmologist.
No tears claim: products such as child’s shampoo which claim that there will be ‘no more tears’ need to be evaluated to demonstrate that the claim is substantiated.
Study type 1: Products will be diluted and then exposed to the eyes of subjects under controlled conditions.
Study type 2: Eye cosmetic studies. Mascara and eye cosmetic safety in use and acceptability can be investigated in studies carried out under the supervision of an ophthalmologist and/or dermatologist.
